Section

Colour & texture

Choosing colour for real New Zealand light, and layering timber, stone, wool and linen so a room feels finished.

Colour behaves differently here. Clear air and strong sun can bleach a palette that looked calm on a sample card, while south-facing rooms in winter can turn the same white grey and flat. Texture does a lot of the work colour gets credit for, catching low light and giving plain rooms depth.

This section looks at testing colour properly, reading undertones and light reflectance, and combining natural materials in ways that age well rather than date quickly.
